Kamala Sahoo, a Hindu woman, worked in the administrative section of the NGO Pallishree and lived in the same building that was destroyed during the Kandhamal violence. Like many others, she lost her livelihood and security overnight. Today, she survives in a small house behind the ruined office, facing persistent threats from Hindutva forces and struggling to afford basic medical care. Her suffering exposes a crucial truth: Hindutva violence did not spare Hindus who stood for coexistence and secular values. Kamala is one among many such victims. Kandhamal’s violence was not against a single faith; it was an assault on humanity, dignity, and democratic conscience itself.
